SoundSaw app updated to version 1.1

This update contains some sound engine improvements and optimization, additional audio hardware options for standalone mode, and several new presets. For details on the new options, see the built-in app description (also available as PDF file).

This video shows the sound processing of the drum machine Korg Electribe by the SoundSaw app, without additional effects and processing. It gives the specific lofi sound with a lot of overdrive and saturation. The SoundSaw app is great for processing the sound of drum machines. As one component and the mix.

Spy Games: Improvisation with four apps

Main piano theme by Rauf Kasimov

Background sound textures were created using the BeatCutter app on iPad with external sound card Focusrite Scarlett 6i6. BeatCutter can use up to four input channels to fill the matrix of samples and construct abstract rhythmic structures from fragments of the original sound.

The rhythm was created by the vintage drum machine Hammond Auto-Vari 64 and then processed with the SoundSaw app to give it an aesthetic of noise and lofi. Rhythm was the first sound source for the BeatCutter and controlled the change in sound textures. The other three sound sources were old training audio cassettes, music CDs, and pre-recorded synth sequences.

As a result, BeatCutter created chaotic yet rhythmically consistent sound textures using different fragments of the source material.

The piano track was played using the iGrand Piano app and processed by the Classic FX app when mixed.

Ken Karsh SoundSaw and Classic FX Free Improv

Very interesting improvisation of classical guitar with a lot of lofi and distortions with SoundSaw and Classic FX apps (and some others). Worth seeing.

... "Until now, I have not used sound mangling/lofi distortion apps. This is a new experience for me. I decided to do a free improv utilizing Igor Vasiliev's brand new SoundSaw and his Classic FX apps. Once again, of course, I am using Quantiloop Pro. The bass track is the only track not processed with SoundSaw and Classic FX. I had a lot of fun with this one."

BeatCutter app updated to version 1.4

This update adds new datasets for generating parameters using templates, slightly improves the sound engine and fixes found issues.

The video demonstrate an example of creating constantly changing sound structures from a single sample in feedback mode. This is an example of a simple enough way to use the BeatCutter app with randomly generated templates. However, the result can be quite interesting.

SoundSaw: The Sound Test Room demo

Great demo of the SoundSaw app for processing the sound of other music apps as an audio unit (AUv3).

SoundSaw is a complex sound processing app with easy-to-use controls designed to distort the sound of musical instruments or voice, and give the sound the aesthetics and atmosphere of noise, lo-fi, chiptune and experimental music scene.

Depending on the settings, it can add light distortion and saturation to the sound for a more natural and lively sound, or drastically change the sound and make it as loud and harsh as possible, full of all kinds of harmonics, crackles and rattles. The settings of this app provide great opportunities for experiments with sound destruction.

Guitar processing with SoundSaw app

Demo of clean guitar sound processed by SoundSaw app. I think that if we add the chain of effects with the cabinet / amp simulator and maybe delay / phaser / flanger (to taste), it will be ready to the great performance.

SoundSaw - The Art of Sound Destruction

SoundSaw is a complex sound processing app with easy-to-use controls designed to distort the sound of musical instruments or voice, and give the sound the aesthetics and atmosphere of noise, lo-fi, chiptune and experimental music scene.

Universal app for iOS and macOS

Depending on the settings, it can add light distortion and saturation to the sound for a more natural and lively sound, or drastically change the sound and make it as loud and harsh as possible, full of all kinds of harmonics, crackles and rattles. The settings of this app provide great opportunities for experiments with sound destruction.

All controls are located on a single screen, grouped by function into six sections with a plain way of signal path from the first section "Input" to the last section "Output". The chain of individual effects in this app is designed in such a way as to get the most interesting result for any parameter values in the widest possible range.

App features:

  • Simulates different types of signal processing electronic circuits and their typical harmonic saturation and noise (static and dynamic).
  • The Maximizer keeps the maximum signal level for more noticeable distortions and feedback effects, and has a mode for hold the maximum volume when the input signal decays.
  • The Overload effect works like an electronic circuit when the signal is much higher than the maximum allowable level and oversaturated the signal various kinds of harmonics.
  • The Decimator and Bitcrusher effects produce very noticeable digital artifacts typical of cheap devices with simple DACs / ADCs, and add various kinds of crackles and rattles.
  • The Feedback effect is similar to acoustic feedback, but more controllable, with the resonant frequency varying in accordance with the harmonics of the input signal.
  • The 4-pole filter controlled by the envelope generator can be used after distortion effects. Filter types: Low pass, High pass, Band pass and Notch.
  • The envelope generator is controlled by the input signal and can generate a single cycle of envelope, repeat cycles or work continuously.
  • At the output there is a filter that can cut the high or low range of the original signal and mix it with the processed signal.

SoundSaw is a universal application for iOS and macOS. It can work on iPhone and iPad as well as Mac / MacBook with M1 chip (and later). SoundSaw works on iPhone and iPad standalone, as an Audio Unit or Inter-App Audio module, and supports Audiobus and Ableton Link. On macOS, SoundSaw can works both as a standalone application and as an Audio unit (AUv3) with DAWs and audio unit hosts like Ableton Live, Logic Pro, GarageBand, MainStage, Cockos Reaper, Plogue Bidule, Hosting AU, and other hosts that support AUv3 plugins. All application features are available on iOS and macOS, including MIDI support (with a MIDI learn option) and audio unit parameters.
