SynthScaper - supported iOS devices

SynthScaper requires a quite enough CPU performance for processing when all oscillators and all voices are active. At the maximum using it will be 3 osc x 3 layers x 6 voices = 54 voices. And can playback up to 9 samples (3 osc x 3 layers) at the same time. And also filters, lfo and envelopes for each oscillator. That's a lot.

Therefore this app can works only on 64 bit devices.

I recommended use at least iPhone 6 / iPad Mini 4 / iPad Air 2 and higher because CPU A8 / A8X is enough not only for this app with maximum use but also for work with several another app at the same time thru Inter-App audio.

But you can start SynthScaper even on first 64 devices like iPad Air / iPad Mini 2 or 3 with CPU A7. It will works. But maybe you will need change some settings in this app for performance optimization especially when you use it with another apps.

SynthScaper - Soundscapes synthesizer

Synthesizer specially designed for creating and experiments with ambient soundscapes in wide range from noises to melodic instruments and everything in between.

The sound engine of SynthScaper has its own unique sounding differ from any other software synths. You can construct outstanding melodic pads or atonal soundscapes from different kind of built-in or downloaded samples by using all power of multi-layered oscillators, chains of filters and effects, envelope generators and low frequency oscillators. Or you can create your own sound scenes combining oscillators presets from build-in library. Or just use predefined scenes.

Very flexible settings of each module give you a great opportunity for creating unique and colorful sounding from usual instruments or natural samples and adding automated changes and spatial effects for an endless variations. Different ways of assigning screen and MIDI keyboards to the oscillators provide very advanced features to control the sound. The on-screen keyboard is adapted to create special effects and varying the continuous textures and drones.

The Designer tool using the neural network generates new presets based on already existing by adding some random variations and checking the result so that the new preset remains similar to the selected pattern.

What is the convolution reverb?

Briefly, convolution reverb is based on a process that digitally 'captures' the reverb characteristics of another reverb effects unit or the reverb response of a real acoustic space. It is based on the mathematical convolution operation, and uses a pre-recorded audio sample of the impulse response of the device or space being modeled. The process of convolution multiplies each sample of the audio to be processed (reverberated) with the samples in the impulse response file.

Several great compositions where AltiSpace was used:

Abstract patterns

An experiment with abstract patterns generating by using only Korg Monotron as sound source and FieldScaper app on iPad for sound processing.

This composition was created from three layers recorded separately in real time. For each layer Korg Monotron was used for generating one sound, then FieldScaper app with different settings was used for processing source sound. First two layers were recorded on two track each (stereo) on Tascam Portastudio 424.

For these layers FieldScaper was set to the Loop mode for work as effect processor.

Third layer was recorded in real time at playback first two. Mixing made on Tascam Portastudio. Final record was made on Sony Walkman Professional WM-D6C.

For third layer FieldScaper also work in Loop mode but the record in loop starts when signal appears. Then loop playback and process. Record starts when signal appears and stops by timer (in certain time). For processing sound were used several built-in presets with some modifications.

Sounds were captured and output by external audio interface connected to iPad - Focusrite Scarlett 6i6.



For visual effects were used a great little device Quantum VJ from Alexander Zolotov.

Author description - "Quantum VJ is a glitch-style 8-bit pendant and audio visualizer. Any audio source can be connected to this device through the jack plug (3.5mm). It also can visualize some electromagnetic interference and the "soul modulations" of the owner when the audio ports are not connected. There are nine display modes that can be switched by the button."
